RVing Through History: Explore These 4 Revolutionary War Sites

If you want to experience a unique getaway with your family this year, consider renting an RV and exploring some historic places close to home. Freedom RV Rentals offers a hassle-free rental experience, allowing you to have a glimpse of the RV life without the commitment of ownership. Driving down the open road in an RV with all the comforts of home makes for an unforgettable vacation experience, and the options for destinations are endless. Let’s explore some historic Revolutionary War sites you can visit in your motorhome or travel trailer rental and enjoy a journey through time.

1. Valley Forge National Historical Park

A nationally significant site, Valley Forge Historical Park was the 1777-1778 winter encampment of General George Washington’s Continental Army. You and your family can explore the historic landscapes, structures, objects, and archaeological and natural resources representing this momentous period in our nation’s history.

2. Brandywine Battlefield Park

The largest single-day land battle of the Revolutionary War was fought at the site of Brandywine Battlefield Park. The visitor center is open on Friday and Saturday each week, and visitors can watch an 18-minute orientation film, walk through the museum, and take a guided house tour of Washington’s headquarters. Come and learn how this battle impacted the war’s outcome as you walk along the time-worn footsteps of those who fought for our freedom.

3. Washington Crossing Historic Park

You can explore more than 500 acres of American history at Washington Crossing Historic Park. George Washington’s famous crossing of the Delaware River on Christmas night in 1776 was a turning point in the Revolutionary War, and that historic event is preserved at this park. You and your family can enjoy the historic village of the Crossing the Delaware Tour, see the Thompson-Neely House and Grist Mill, and experience Bowman’s Hill Tower.

4. Fort Mifflin

Be sure to visit Fort Mifflin to explore one of the only intact Revolutionary War battlefields and the only fort in Philadelphia. You can see where a defining stand-off and battle commenced, preventing British troops from re-supplying their occupying forces in Philadelphia. The British troops bombarded Fort Mifflin with canon fire before the remaining Continental troops escaped across the river. The fort may have been ablaze, but the flag was still flying.
