When camping in State College or the surrounding areas, plan a day or two of driving, hiking, or taking pictures of the majestic beauty of Fall in Pennsylvania. From state parks and state forests to other stunning locations, you won’t want to miss out on an opportunity like this. At Freedom RV Rentals, we recommend adding at least one of these five outdoor wonderlands to your camping itinerary.
This state park is known as one of the best places to view the fall colors in Pennsylvania. It’s located 1,300 feet above the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, giving campers and hikers the perfect viewpoint for enjoying the brilliant hues of autumn.
This section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike was abandoned back in the 1960s when the highway was rerouted. The 13-mile scenic roadway is a beautiful drive any time of year, but during the fall season, you can get an amazing view of the fall colors from the nearby Buchanan State Forest.
If you want to spend a few days surrounded by the striking autumn trees, take your RV and camp near the Allegheny National Forest. This reserved land boasts over half-a-million acres and has several campgrounds available for you and your family. Hector Falls, Tidioute Overlook, and Kinzua Lake are a few of the many neighboring scenic views.
Rothrock State Forest isn’t as large as Allegheny, but it still features some of the most vibrant autumn displays in the state. Drive your motorhome rental or park your RV and navigate the roads of these dense woodlands. You can snap some fantastic photos from three different outlooks that are located on or near Colerain Road.
Perhaps you want to visit a more secluded area of Pennsylvania. Quehanna Wild Area offers numerous up-close views of the breathtaking fall foliage. There aren’t many outlooks, so grab your hiking gear, water bottles, and phones, and enjoy all the beauty that autumn brings to Quehanna.
